Budokai series or Budokai Tenkaichi series?

I love both, and I had so much fun with both series. Budokai 3 was, and still is, amazing. But I love how Tenkaichi series is 3D and it's fun to fly around the battlefield..

Hard to choose.. I would just play both again and see which one I enjoy more, but my Tenkaichi 2 is broken (I don't like the first one and I only have the second, not the third.)

I'd probably say go for the Tenkaichi series in the end.

I have a very unpopular opinion, so yeah

Budokai 3 is lame and overrated.

The fighting mechanics are nothing like DBZ, no flying what so ever.

People complain that Ultimate Tenkaichi is luck based, Budokai 3's Dragon Rush is even worse

The way ultimate moves work is really annoying. God forbid you have any lag or fatigue. It punishes the player if they are weak while using an ultimate, which a is a real d*** move, imo

Unlocking is a pain since a lot of it is luck based. What game have you heard of where you have to earn the right to use Death Beam with Freeza? The shop's stock is random, and a lot of it is very expensive too. Another problem is that without "Breakthrough", you can't get everything you want. Even then, Freeza, Cooler, and Vegeta lose their secondary transformations

Ki blasts are unbelivably easy to spam in this game and do a fair chunk of damage too.

Some characters are simply better than others. Some characters don't even have ultimates
And what do you think of the Tenkaichi series?
Let me compare them on those points

You have free range to fly around within huge arenas

Only one move is luck based

Ultimates can be used so long as you enter max power mode and as such, it can be used to make a come back

While unlocking tournament based characters is a pain as that is luck based, they come with all the attacks and transformations naturally. Meta-Cooler, Mecha Freeza, and Majin Vegeta are separate characters as well

Ki blasts barely do any damage and are mostly used for chip damage

Everyone has ultimates and only Hercule is really worse than anyone

Dragon Rush isn't overrated, Ultimate Tenkaichi is ENTIRELY luck based.

Ultimate Move are simple to do, you just have to get a good set-up option.

Unlocking I'll partially agree on.

I always loved Budokai's opening (BUDOKAI 3 THO) compared to Tenkaichi's. Even the music is better in my opinion.

I love both series. I like Budokai's fighting system and I love that Tenkaichi added so many characters.

The Budokai series

Partly because I'm more into traditional fighters and a huge chunk of my fond DBZ gaming memories come from them (though I really loved BT2) but mainly because the Budokai's were always technically superior. The story modes, the cinematic, soundtrack, and battle mechanics (at least B3's was) were all better.

The Budokai's also transitioned better into the HD consoles better than the Tenkaichi's. Burst Limit was decent albeit too short whereas all the HD remakings of Tenkaichi have been pretty mediocre (and the Kinects game was terrible).

BT3 is certainly good but it's got nothing on B3 imo. Sure Dragon Rush was luck-based but really easy to avoid and going into hyper mode put you at serious risk of using up all your ki, becoming fatigued and being left wide open to attack. As far as flight is concerned I think some people forget that you could go airborne any time you wanted in B3 by dashing backwards and up.

And lets face it, ultimates and planet explosions looked waaay better in B3 than they did in BT3. Like Vegeta's Big Bang Attack. In B3 it looked incredible with a really awesome buildup and a massive explosion with lots of detail. In BT3 it looked just like any other ultimate. Another thing the Budokai series did better was facial expressions. You could really see the anger and fear on their faces.

And also the music was incredible in the Budokai series. And I mean the original music from the PS2 versions before it was changed in the HD Collection. The music in BT3 was pretty average overall although I will say I love the BT2 score.
"The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!"

I love both games, but countless hours into both, but Tenkaichi wins out for me, and it's definitely the better one to play with friends.
